Ashley Craig / Greyhound Combs

Part-Time Graphic Designer.

Greyhound Combs is the original manufacturer of all greyhound combs and brushes. Situated in California, I was chosen to be their graphic designer, bringing to their company a whole new line of drawings, web design, and product marketing!

I was responsible for updating, and creating a current and popular selection of dog breed designs for all their products. I was also responsible for creating a laser possible drawing/design/logo from customer provided ideas and artwork. I was very flexible and open to suggestion and criticism, it makes for a very successful employer/employee relationship as we adapt to each others styles!

Since taking me on as their sole designer, sales had jumped drastically with a fresh, current and realistic approach to dog design and all their brushes and products. This company manufactures all of their combs and brushes and offers the client, a small town business feel with the capabilities of a large corporation.

W'inc Online

I started W'inc when we were running the store, and managed to attract numerous customers based on my customer relation skills. Since our chows were in the store with us (an excellent conversation starter) dog orientated customers approached me for work. I had intense knowledge and adaptability with all the breeds I designed as well as being extremely competitive financially.

I find the majority of my workload consists of photo editing, magazine ads and business card design. Coming close second is logo design and website creation. I pride myself on developing a unique web presence and identity for my clients.

I have designed logos and promotional items for numerous breed clubs, specialties and National Events with great success. As well, I have an online dog show magazine ad website which I have just started, offering my magazine clients to take the ad to another level, and broadcast it, as well as live link and data to potential judges/clients worldwide. Designing was another service our store now provided!


Gemini Jetpack

For 8 years I ran a store in Kitchener Waterloo along with my partner. The store was called Gemini Jetpack, and catered to a client base of collectors, movie goers, card players, and book readers. We proudly boasted the largest selection of rental anime in Canada. We supported many local Anime clubs in the areas, as well we sponsored many events, tournaments and shows province wide. We were a social store, involving the cities in our local events and fundraisers. We just finished a recent artist's competition requiring local artists to delve into the characters which are our store's mascots.

Owning the store gave me a lot of time to concentrate on my design clients while behind the counter in quiet times. Gemini Jetpack was a unique experience for me, I learned how arranging product, creating displays and general layout and design helped promote and sell product that would otherwise go unnoticed. Designing of window graphics, business cards, gift certificates and store signage was an enjoyable part of the business.

 

ProJoy Sportswear

I was a senior graphics designer at a sportswear manufacturer based in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Equipment used: plotter, rubylith, vellum, acetate, image setter, high-end ink jet plotter, laser printers, light tables, French curves, screen printing, sublimation and silk-screening equipment.

Duties as a pre-press graphic artist: 

  • Create original designs and logos, prepare digital files, output large-scale film as both spot color and CMYK separations for a specialized dye sublimation application.

    I have prepared vector graphic film output on a plotter system and complex fills and halftones for output on a RIP system for a large image setter.

    Artwork and film preparation for screen printing applications, plotting and installing vinyl signs, preparing web graphics and preparing digital files for print material.

  • Extensive traditional illustration, photography and editing skills, as well as thorough experience with computer aided design packages including: 
  • Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, CorelDraw and Corel Photo paint, Macromedia, Front Page 2000, KPT, WS FTP, PageMaker, InDesign. Of late. I had been exclusively using a PC at work. I am comfortable on both platforms and can convert files easily from one to the other. I have comprehensive experience with the internet as well as file sharing on local networks, and I am familiar with FTP procedures. I am fluent in HTML and the preparation of graphics for the web.
  • Design and manufacturing sublimated garments for professional sports: CCM's replica program for National Hockey League (NHL) teams. Bombardier Ski-Doo Rip N' Hammer. National Lacrosse League (NLL) Pro Beach Hockey teams (televised on ESPN). Many of the jerseys I have designed are available for viewing on ProJoy's web page at http://www.projoy.com (I designed the web page along with my associates) I also designed advertisements for ProJoy that can be seen in the fall and spring issues of NARCH (North America Roller Hockey) player magazine 2000.

I have excellent problem solving skills and a solid understanding of the print process and dye sublimation. I have an exceptional eye for detail, a strong work ethic and 15 years of experience in graphic design. I have an excellent ability to learn and develop skills for any application and I adapt easily to varying levels of complexity in design requirements. I learn new software and new software applications quickly and am familiar with many aspects of print technology and web design.

OLB

Creation of advertisements displayed on two 53" TVs in .TGA format, located in Pioneer Sportsworld, Kitchener Waterloo Recreational Complex and various other locations.

I was solely responsible for creating these billboards using some copy provided by the client, or from scratch based on a customer's requests.

As well as this type of advertising, I was in charge of creating and maintaining print advertisements and web pages for some of these clients.


SELF EMPLOYMENT

I am currently maintaining 23 personal websites for Dog Fanciers of all types. I am also producing ads for many popular magazines, papers and corporate identities. I also specialize in digital manipulation and corrections of photos. I draw portraits, and create logos, stationary, business cards and other company necessities. I create personal portraits for individual dog owners as well.

I have been a freelance artist for 20 years, I draw and sketch often. Often I am asked to donate pieces of my work for charitable organizations for auctions. I also donate pieces of my work to the Humane Society and clients of my vet, to help with the grieving process, such as an individualized portrait.

I love being around animals and have an innate ability to understand them and work alongside them without incident.
