Over the years Chow people had come and gone. The BC Chow folks have always been a friendly supportive group. A newcomer is welcomed into the sport and helped along the way. The first National BC ever hosted was 1994 with 78 entries of 52 Chows. Our numbers have dropped again, but there will be a upturn again I'm sure. Temperament of our Chows is one of the most important things we all strive for. I don't care how pretty the Chow is, if you can't get your hands on the dog, it does not need to be at a show or in anyone's breeding program. The Chows must always be good with both people and other dogs of all breeds.

In BC we have some great handling classes and we always encourage people to start there, not to do their training in the ring at the dog show.

In these days of Breed Ban Laws we need to really make sure we do not add to the hype by bringing an unruly Chow to a show. There have never been a lot of Chow breeders here but in the past (1950'sor 60's) there was a breeder on the Island who had quite a number of chows and one or two on the Mainland. Trying to find a chow in B.C. has always been hard so most of us started with dogs imported from Washington or sometimes Eastern Canada. It would be nice to see the Chow population increase with some fresh new blood in both the dogs and the breeders (owners, handlers).
